The Ono Junior Grange is for local Grangers from the ages of 5-14, allowing them to become involved in the Nation’s oldest rural advocacy group while teaching them the value of agriculture and the principals of leadership and hard work. The Ono Jr. Grange participates in a number of events throughout the year. We aim to foster learning and exploration of Agriculture, Sustainability, Nature and how things work! Going to fair is a major event for our Jr. Grangers and this year in 2021 we represented showing Sheep, Rabbits and Cake Baking at the Shasta County District Fair.

Examples of meetings include;
Dairy Awareness Meeting – The Junior Grangers went to a Grange member’s farm and milked their goat. The children then made and enjoyed homemade ice cream utilizing the goat’s milk.

Meal Worm Farms – The Junior Grangers all learned about the meal worm life cycle and each built their own meal worm farm to supplement their home chicken feed.

Ladybugs and Daffodils – A local community member educated the Junior Grangers on ladybugs and the aspects of their business harvesting and selling ladybugs to gardeners online. The children also planted Daffodil bulbs in the yard of the Ono Grange.
Fossils and Rock Painting – The children learned all about prolific local fossils and had an opportunity to see and feel a local Grange member’s collection. The Junior Grangers then painted rocks they took home.

Shasta County Fair Rabbit Project – A subgroup of Junior Grangers participated in a series of separate meeting learning how to care for their newly acquired Mini Rex rabbits. The children learned how to participate in the showmanship of rabbits with the specific goal of competing in the 2019 Shasta County Fair.
Among many more activities and projects!
